A kittycat costume is great for a child or an adult on Halloween. It is a fun, cute way to get the most out of your Halloween Night. Makeup tips to become a cat!

For the superstitious person, a black cat is scary every day of the year, especially when the cat crosses one's path. But on Halloween night, a black cat can be scary to everyone. Now just because a witch’s best friend is her black cat doesn’t mean your version for Halloween has to be so boring. Feel free to step out and be different; choose any color for your kittycat costume. For the purpose of our cat costume, we will be using the color green.

This costume is appropriate for kids of all ages. For adults, feel free to sex it up a little with the costume by using a lower-cut, body-tight leotard. For sexier makeup, do more of a smokey cat eye look.

For the Makeup

Supplies needed:

  • Face paints in light green, green, dark green, white and black
  • Makeup sponges
  • Big and fine paintbrushes
  • Headband to pull back hair from face

Makeup Application:

  1. Pull back hair from face.
  2. Using a makeup sponge, apply the light green face paint all over the face except around the mouth and the eyes.
  3. Apply the white face paint with the big paint brush to make the mouth look like a cat muzzle and around the eyes in a sharp almond shape like cat eyes.
  4. Use the fine paintbrush to apply the dark green face paint to outline the muzzle and a thin line on the lips. As well, add dots to the muzzle to accent the places where the whiskers will start. Also line the eyebrows to give added expression.
  5. Still using the fine paintbrush, apply the green face paint under the eyes as an eyeliner and under the white face paint for definition.
  6. With the black face paint, add whiskers and a cat nose.

For the Costume:

Supplies needed:

  • Black pantyhose
  • Leotard (black or another color)
  • Mittens that match leotard
  • Swansdown (available at the local fabric or craft supply store)
  • Felt to match the leotard
  • Pink felt
  • Headband

Some things will need to be made ahead of time, such as the ears, tail, and paws.

  • To make paws, use the mittens and then add swansdown around the edge. Also apply swansdown around the ankles.
  • To make ears, cut out shapes of ears from the felt that matches your leotard (in our case, green). Cut a smaller ear shape from the pink felt and glue in the middle. Attach the ears to a headband and line the headband with swansdown.
  • To make a tail, make a long tube with felt and add just a touch of swansdown to the end for fluff. Attach tail to leotard.

Chrissy Dolezal :
Swansdown is the soft feathers of a swan. It is often used to trim dresses.
