You may not feel like a model but you can look like a model in your photographs with a few great tips. Learn to be photogenic and look great!
For the most part we know what events will have a camera such as parties, open houses, or a girlfriend night. With these tips you can be more photogenic and look great in all your pictures no matter what the event.
Preparations for Taking a Good Picture
Prepare yourself before the event to make sure you will take a good picture.
- Plan your outfit. You don’t have to be dressy to look your best but make sure to wear flattering fits and colors when you know your picture will be taken. Avoid horizontal stripes, tight clothing that causes bulges, and colors that you know are unflattering on you.
- Wear matte makeup. No one wants the greasy look, especially not in a picture. Make sure to use a matte foundation, blot with oil-absorbing tissues and apply powder so the face looks matte. Of course shimmer can be worn on the eyes and the lips but make sure the rest of your makeup stays matte.
Look Like a Model with the Right Posture
There are several things you can do just before the picture is taken to be photogenic.
- Add volume to your hair. Flip your hair upside down and loosely comb your fingers through your hair. This will help add volume, which also gives an instant sexiness to your look.
- Check your smile. If there is no time to grab a mirror before the picture, run your tongue over your teeth to make sure you have no food caught and that there is no lipstick on your teeth. No one wants to guess what you ate for dinner!
- Put down the drink. It is not wise to be photographed with an alcoholic beverage or even the appearance of an alcoholic drink. You may be out having a good time with friends but a photograph will last forever. Do you want your mother, grandchildren, or a future employer getting the wrong impression from one picture?
- Strike a pose. If you see any pictures of celebrities on red carpets or models walking the runway, they always pose in a similar way. There is a reason for this, it is universally flattering for every woman no matter the shape, age, or size. Stand sideways with one foot in front of the other and angle your body toward the camera. Put one hand on the hip and let the other dangle loosely to the side. This stance instantly slims and lengthens the body.
Still not sure if you are giving the best look? Take time to practice. Use the self timer on your digital camera, your camera phone, or your computer camera to practice your smile, the angle of your face, or the look in your eyes. You will most likely feel silly but it will help you see what is the best side and angle for you.
