Glasses naturally frame your face and bring the focus to the eyes. Because of that it is necessary to bring out all the features in the face so you are not hidden behind your frames. Believe it or not, the best way to do this is to wear less makeup then normal and apply brighter shades, especially if you have dark frames.
Applying Eye Makeup When Wearing Glasses
Glasses can naturally cast a shadow under your eyes so it is important to apply a light layer of concealer under the eye, especially if you have dark circles. It is important not to have a thick layer of makeup or it will be very noticeable with your glasses on. A light weight, moisturizing concealer will work best. Be sure to set concealer and foundation with powder so there will be minimal makeup worn off from the glasses.
It is important to take good care of your eyebrows when wearing glasses. Eyebrows naturally frame the face and will also frame the eye glasses as well. Be sure to have the appropriate eyebrow shape and fill in the eyebrows with makeup if necessary.
When applying eye makeup, start by using a shimmery eyeshadow in a light shade on the brow bone and lid. Shimmery eyeshadows will reflect the light, making the eyes shine behind the eye glasses. Gold is the perfect color to apply on the lid. It will bring more warmth to the eye. On the outer thirds of the eye apply a matte shade in a neutral color like brown or gray to bring more depth to the eye. Finish the eye look by applying a thin layer of black eyeliner to the top lashes and a light layer of mascara
If you want to play with color, a great way to add color to the eye is with the eyeliner or with the second eye color that goes on the lid. It will add a fun pop behind the eye glasses, bring the focus to your eyes and not to your eyewear.
- Eyeliner Tip: If you are near-sighted, extend the eyeliner up and just past the eye. Near-sighted glasses tend to make the eyes look smaller. Extending the eyeliner will lift the eyes and make them appear larger.
Applying Makeup for the Rest of the Face
Peach blush is a great shade for blush that will help lift the face and add dimension. It is also a great color for everyone, no matter what the shade of skin is. Apply blush to the apple of the cheeks and up just a tad higher on the cheek bones.
If you wear glasses you have more options for brighter shades of lipstick colors. The darker the frames, the brighter your lipstick can be. A bright lip will help balance out the attention the dark frames from the eye glasses. Go for a fun pink, coral and raspberry shade.
Remember when wearing eye glasses, that less makeup is more but color can be a lot of fun when seen behind the specs. So feel free to glam it up a bit while still keeping the amount of makeup minimal.
