How we have viewed the appearance of a man is beginning to change. Not only are men dabbling more with hair products and hair styles, more men are getting manicures and pedicures as well. In fact, they are even removing their body hair that used to be considered “manly.” Men have also started looking into cosmetics and beginning to wear makeup on a regular basis.
I am not just referring to celebrities who obviously wear cosmetics for movies roles and television appearances. I am also not referring to transvestites or drag queens. I’m talking about men at your office, your neighbor, the cute guy at the produce section of the grocery store, and maybe even your husband or boyfriend.
Why Men Are Wearing Makeup
Men today have found that women do not wear makeup because we like it, but because we need it! Cosmetics helps us to have beautiful, perfect skin. It hides our acne problems, scars, and dark circles. It is makeup that helps our eyes appear larger (or smaller if you have prominent eyes), lashes longer, plus gives us those perfect pouty lips. Makeup not only makes us look and feel more beautiful, it also has its benefits; like foundation that helps protect our skin from the environment.
Many men have become concerned about their skin as well. They want to hide pimples, acne problems and scars to glam up their appearance a bit towards perfection.
The Value of a Man’s Appearance
Men are also putting more value in their appearance. They are spending more time on hair, skincare and body care as well as cosmetics. And skin care lines are taking notice. Many have developed specific skincare and body care lines catered just to men. Not only has Mary Kay Cosmetics and Avon started but Sephora now has a complete section just for men.
With more cosmetic companies taking notice, that means that the market for men’s cosmetic products is becoming good business. A way for cosmetic companies to cover the needs of all consumers.
I find it interesting that more men, everyday guys, are out there taking this step to better their appearance. I have long thought that men should wear makeup to help support healthy skin. The main purpose I wear foundation is to protect my skin. Why shouldn’t men do the same? The environment damages their skin just like it does mine.
