Many cancer treatments will cause a loss of hair. There are many stylish options to cover the head such as wigs, scarves, hats and turbans.

Cancer is a complicated disease to experience, not only for the one living through it but for the loved ones as well. Besides the scare that it naturally brings, cancer will also cause many changes to the body due to surgery and cancer treatments. Treatments like chemotherapy and radiation (depending on where the radiation is concentrated at) will cause hair loss.

Wigs for Cancer Patients

Wigs are an obvious option that can be used to cover the head. The best time to purchase a wig is prior to hair loss. That way the stylist can help find one that matches the current hairstyle and color. It is definitely a good idea to buy a wig that is similar to the current hairstyle. It is also important to find out what material the wig is made of. Wigs made with human hair will react to the elements and will probably not last more than six months depending on use. Wigs made with synthetic hair will last longer but are usually hotter to wear.

If financially capable, it would be fun to have other options of wigs in different colors and styles than how hair is normally worn.

Scarves and Hats for Cancer Patients

Scarves are a fun, affordable and fashionable option that can easily be tied around the head to cover and protect. Scarves will not be as hot as wigs but may fall off if not secured properly. Scarves can be matched with outfits and worn under hats too.

Hats are a great option for cancer patients because they are easily changed with the outfit and season. Fur and wool hats are perfect for winter. Straw and cotton hats will help keep cool in the summer.

With hats and scarves it will be important to use a corresponding headband underneath to help secure them in place. If the scarf is made of silk or other slippery material, tuck the top part of the scarf under the headband to keep it in place. Wearing a corresponding headband underneath the hat will help keep the hat secure, comfortable and clean.

Chemotherapy Turbans

Turbans are a very casual option but are very comfortable. They are a great option to be worn around the house or while undergoing cancer treatments. Some hospitals will offer chemotherapy turbans to patients while undergoing cancer treatments in their facilities.

Although it can be difficult to experience the loss of hair, there are many stylish options for head coverings. This may be the one way to try and have fun with the hairlessness that cancer has caused and experience new styles, colors, and accessories. Remember the loss of hair is a temporary problem and one day the hair will eventually grow back.
